My friend is in pain. What should he do?

Question 1
My friend is in pain. What should he do?…  He has these flare-ups where out of no where he will get severe pain. I want him to go to a hospital or the immediate care center but he wont go. He wants to "work through the pain". He wont even take Aleve. How can I convince him to go?

Answers
1)   Force him into the car and drive to the doctor’s or the hospital. He’s not likley to jump out of a moving car. Well, I would try explaining to him that he means a lot to you, and you don’t like seeing him in pain. Maybe that will help. – imalovesicksinger

2)   im usually against being a tattle tale… but if you guys are both under 18 or living in your parents homes, you should talk to his parents about it and tell them how concerned you are about him… becuz you dont know if its normal or if something is seriously wrong and he should get it checked out. – Raina

3)   Do not take no for an answer! Take him to the hospital. What harm can it do? Better safe than sorry. – TSK

4)   Well my answer depends on what kind of pain he is having but if it is severe and located in an area such as the chest, abdomen or head I would ignore what he is saying and just call 911 and get him some help right away before his "flare-ups" turn into something worse. Try and tell him that the pain he is feeling could be something bad or life threatening and that he should see a doctor just to be safe. We might be able to give you a better answer if we knew where the pain was located.

Good Luck. – neptune296

5)   I’m not sure what kind of advice you want here. You didn’t give any helpful information… didn’t say where the pain is, when he gets it, and how it comes on. Didn’t mention his age, what he’s doing when it happens, or even the type of pain.

So… no one here can give you any relevant information. – Lynx

2)   If they took you to ER and your xray was fine, chances are you symptoms have nothing to do with the fall. although your neck being sore could be a result of the fall, take painkillers every 4 hrs, and eat and drink plenty of fluids and rest too, u may have just pulled a muscle on your neck. Give it about 3-5 days and if symptoms persist seek medical advice at your doctors. – Kat

Question 4
DOES ANYONE KNOW what is wrong with my tummy?…  3 Days ago, I was sitting at work, ( I work for a calling center) and suddenly, my stomach starting hurting really bad, I mean REALLY bad. It felt like needles stabbing me in the gut and it made it hard to walk and breath…. Ive gotten that pain before so I didnt think anything of it and just lived through it.

I know its not related to pregnancy because I just finished my cycle and am on BC.

The very next day, I felt fine, but had minor pains. I felt hungry alot and I ate… Half way through the day again, I started having uncomfortable pains but nothing needle-like, it was just a bloated and full feeling but i felt starved all at the same time..

It is day three and I felt nauseous almost all day, had minor burning and stabbing sensations, and felt full, hungry and somewhat bloated as well. I didnt vomit but I felt pretty close. When I ate, I felt a bit better, but that didnt last long at all. I sometimes thought I could feel the liquids in my stomach of as if something was pouring into it… (like when you drink cold water) but that was rare. My stomach keeps growling as well, when I feel full, but my brain is also making me feel like Im hungry. I dont know wether I am hungry or not, wether its just the pain doing it or not. Im very concerned.

Its almost like im suffering from every stomach pain imaginable.. I have no idea what it is and I cant see a doctor until Thursday, so i just wanted to see if anyone had felt this or knew anything about this.

Question 5
Could Bumping My Head Cause An Aneurysm?…  Hey. I worry about a lot of things, so I just want a little advice on this, so I can stop worrying. Tonight at work, I bumped my head a couple times lightly. Like I stood up quickly after bending over, and banged my head a little on a metal shelf. Aneurysm’s don’t run in my family, but I’ve been reading about them, and I’m just paranoid. Could a bump to the head cause one to occur? and it wouldn’t cause one to rupture if you didn’t have a pre existing one already would it? any info would be great. thanks.

Answers
1)   I’m not a doctor but getting an aneurysm from a bump is VERY rare. You’d have to hit your head in exactly the right spot for something to rupture. And remember, your skull is like a helmet for your brain so if it was a light bump I highly, highly doubt it.

If you’re feeling a lot of pain or dizziness and what not, get checked out. If you’re really worried you could just schedule an appointment or call a nurses station.

Good luck! – Pinkxo

2)   STOP LOOKING ONLINE!!! That is the worst thing you could possibly do!! If you lightly bumped your head a few times at work then YOU ARE FINE!! You are highly highly unlikely to get any time of rupture or even a concussion for that matter from bumping your head. You’d have to hit your head very very hard in order for something like that to rupture, and then ignore it! Just relax, I went through a weird phase where I thought I was going to have a brain anerysum, but I got over it. Its so rare. Just relax and stop looking at DR. Google! its not good for you!!

What Are PFO’s and How To Prevent Them?

The foramen ovale is a small opening located on the atrial septum that is used during fetal circulation to speed up the travel of oxygenated blood through the heart. When in the womb, a baby does not use its own lungs to oxygenate blood; it relies on the mother to provide oxygen rich blood from the placenta through the umbilical cord. Normally the foramen ovale closes at birth when increased blood pressure on the left side of the heart forces the opening to close.

If the atrial septum does not close properly, it is called a patent foramen ovale. This type of defect generally works like a flap valve, only opening during certain conditions when there is more pressure inside the chest. This increased pressure occurs when people strain while having a bowel movement, cough, or sneeze.

How does a PFO affect the body?

If the pressure is sufficient, blood may travel from the right atrium to the left atrium. If there is a clot or particles in the blood traveling in the right side of the heart, it can cross the PFO, enter the left atrium, and travel out of the heart to the brain (causing a stroke) or into a coronary artery (causing a heart attack).

A stroke occurs when circulation to a part of the brain is blocked. The resultant lack of oxygen can cause problems that range from death to permanent or temporary affects on muscle control and body function.

A PFO does not cause a stroke, but its presence may be a pathway for a stroke to occur by allowing blood to flow from the venous system to the arterial system without going through the lungs first. One of the important functions of the lungs, in addition to oxygen exchange, is to filter acidic debris from the venous blood returning to the heart. If this acidic debris goes to the arterial circulation, it can lodge in an artery serving the brain, heart, or other major organ causing an arterial embolization. When it lodges in the brain, a stroke occurs. If the effects of the stroke last less than 24 hours, the stroke is called a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). If the symptoms persist longer than 24 hours, it is termed a stroke.

The best treatment to prevent and/ or reverse a possible heart attack or stroke is an alkaline lifestyle and diet, as outlined in our new book, The pH Miracle Revised and Revisited, that will prevent bowel congestion and constipation, reduce or prevent allergic reactions to environmental toxins, reduce cellular acidic debris, prevent thrombosis, and keep the blood clean and flowing throughout central and peripheral blood circulation.

People who really want to die, don’t normally worry about the pain, so I suspect you are crying out for help to live. Call a suicide hotline, or see your doctor, get the help you obviously want and need. – essentiallysolo

7)   There is no fool proof way to kill yourself without inflicting any pain. Pills will cause an overdose, and give you severe head, muscle, and stomach cramps. Drowning yourself makes your lungs burn tremendously. Of course, as you have noticed, knives also hurt. The other option would be a gun, but you will feel pain for a quick moment.ON to what I am really concerned about! You. I am concerned about you. You do not elaborate on WHY you would like to end your life. For every issue and problem we have in life, there is an answer and a resolution. When you make a decision such as this, it affects everyone around you. Your mother, father, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and your children. Think about it long and hard before making your decision. When my son passed away, I wanted to die right along with him. But I didn’t. I couldn’t do that to my other 2 children, or my husband and family. – sandra h

Answers
1)   Yeah, you’re still doing a lot of growing at that age – Poseidon

2)   No. Growing pains usually stop around age 12. It sounds like you have a knee condition. Growing pains aren’t actually all that associated with growth, oddly enough. It’s just a term to describe random limb pains in children.

Dylan, YOU are dumb. I actually know about this. If you’d read my response, you’d know that pains labeled "growing pains" aren’t fully associated with growing. They usually happen ages 2 – 5, then 8 – 12. According to your profile, you’re 13. So shut up. – Olivia J

I had a exray and they said there was narrowing of hte spine, so they sent for a mri. okay the mri said :

Conus appear normal in configuration and ends at L1.

Vertebral bodies appear normal in height and alignment. Nonspecific small vertebral body hemangioma at L1.

Diminished disk signal at L4-5 and L5-S1 level suggest desiccation.

LUMBAR DISC LEVELS:

L1-L2: No central canal or foraminal stenosis.

L2-L3: No central canal or foraminal stenosis.

L3-L4: No central canal or foraminal stenosis.

L4-L5: Broad-based small disk bulge without central canal or foraminal stenosis.

L5-S1: Left subarticular/foraminal broad-based disk protrusion measures approximately 16mm transverse and

5.5-mm anterior-posterior. No central canal stenosis. Mild to moderate left foraminal stenosis. No impingement

Until and unless that disk is reduced, either by rupture or physical therapy, you just have to put up with the pain. I would ask for a referral for physical therapy, and use a lot of ice packs on your lower back to decrease inflammation. Crystal meth and pregnancy – not a happy combination

Taking crystal meth is never the greatest of ideas and a new study by researchers at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles shows how harmful it can be for women to take it while they are pregnant. The researchers compared 276 women who were taking crystal meth while they were pregnant with 34,055 other women; all the women gave birth at a hospital in Phoenix between 2000 and 2006. The meth users were nearly three times as likely to have a premature birth and more likely to have a caesarean section. 20% of them had uncontrolled high blood pressure while nearly 10% of them suffered placental abruption in which the placenta separates from the uterus before delivery. The babies of the meth users were six times more likely to suffer ill health and four times more likely to die.

Diet and ADHD – is junk food a risk factor?

Researchers from the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research in Perth, Australia, have been looking into the links between diet and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and have found that children who eat a healthier diet are less likely to develop it. The researchers looked into the diets of 1,800 teenagers and classified them into ‘healthy’ diets – high in fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, fish, omega-3 fatty acids, folate and fibre – and ‘Western’ ones which featured more takeaways, sweets and junk food and were higher in total fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt. Having a ‘Western’ diet was found to be linked to a greater risk of ADHD.

Bipolar disorder – more episodes = more unhappiness

For people suffering from bipolar disorder episodes of mania and depression can come and go throughout their lives. Researchers from the University of Granada in Spain looked at the psychiatric histories of 108 people diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have concluded, not surprisingly perhaps, that the more episodes people have the worse their quality of life. More than three previous manic episodes, current depression, smoking and being less well-educated were associated with problems in finding and holding down a job. Difficulty with social function increased with the number of hospitalizations, with multiple previous episodes of depression, in those who had lack of social support, and with current depression. In addition, individuals with bipolar disorder who were older, who showed potential signs of alcohol abuse, who had been hospitalized more often, or who had had repeated manic episodes, had more difficulty with family life.

Nitric Oxide – the prime suspect for brain-cell death

Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease are all characterized by the early death of brain cells but what makes brain cells give up the ghost? Researchers from the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute in the U.S. have been looking into the role of a gas called nitric oxide. The gas attaches itself to other molecules in the brain and was found to ‘leap’ from one set of proteins, called caspases, that normally start cell death to another protein XIAP that normally inhibits it. This is a double whammy for brain cells which are ‘programmed’ to die when either XIAP has nitric oxide attached to it or when caspases don’t. If the scientists can find out how to stop nitric oxide transferring from one molecule to another that could be a breakthrough in the fight against Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s.

2)   That space that is narrowed between T1 and T2 is caused by tight muscles pulling on the vertebrae to get them closer. It is that tight muscle that is giving you the pain. You have to release your back muscles to get the relief you are looking for. Here’s how to release them:

Back:

(do from a sitting position)

Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.

For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed. – Douglas B

He’s at the hospital and they said he’s going to have to lose two toes and won’t be able to walk. Is this going to be permanent or temporary? I really hope he’s okay.. I’m going to visit him at the hospital tomorrow.

Answers
1)   he will probably have to stay off of it for a long time. i was in a major car accident and i broke my pelvis. i couldn’t walk for three months and was in bed all day and night. i hope he feels better soon. hope for the best – Amy

2)   The toes are permanently gone. I’m guessing that walking will return after a long rehab, but he might have a limp forever. But I’m not there, so I can’t say for sure. – Will

3)   How terrible! Your friend must be so upset about his toes. I’m sure with physical therapy and a cane, he will be able to walk again. There are so many options for people today. There’s probably a device to help him. Best of luck for a speedy recovery! – anaheimkaren

You want your children to eat a healthy diet full of nutrition, but for many parents this is an ongoing battle. Yes, your kids can be taught to eat a healthy diet, but sometimes when they are very young it is hard to get them to eat their fruits and vegetables. You don’t want to spend all day trying to get them to eat the foods they need to eat. Sometimes picky eaters won’t eat the foods that they need to eat to help them stay healthy. We all were kids once, and we know that we too, didn’t like to eat our fruits and vegetables. Yet we know that kids still need the proper nutrition to help keep their immune systems strong so that they can stay healthy and ward off nourishment deficiencies. You may also find this article to be helpful,”Teaching Your Kids To Eat A Healthy Diet“.

Tip: Mix the vegetable in with the food. I was feeding my niece and when I tried to give her some green beans she wouldn’t eat them. I was also feeding her some meatless spaghetti too. I just mixed the green beans in with the spaghetti. She didn’t even notice the difference.

The above tip is a great way to get kids to eat some of their vegetables. It may or may not work, but it’s worth a try.:)

So, what do you do if your child is such a picky eater? Do you just stop trying to get him or her to eat healthy? The answer is,”No”. You may want to start giving them a children’s liquid vitamin and mineral supplement. To help fill in the gaps. Even if they are not picky eaters it is a good idea to give them a supplement.

A liquid vitamin is easy for a child to digest and also absorb. Our bodies are like sponges. Pills do not break down in the body thus, you do not absorb them. Plus, you don’t have to worry about your child having to swallow pills. It’s definitely, more convenient.

You also want a liquid vitamin that doesn’t contain:

Artificial Sweeteners
Artificial Colors
Artificial Flavors
Preservatives
Gluten
GMO
BPA Packaging

Your child’s vitamin and mineral supplement should compliment your child’s diet. That means you don’t want your children to eat a bunch of junk food so your child’s liquid vitamin and mineral supplement shouldn’t be a junk food. There are so many so called vitamins which or nothing but junk food. Flintstones vitamins and centrum are just some to name a few.

Teaching your child to eat a healthy diet is the best thing that you can do for them, but giving your child a vitamin and liquid supplement is the next best thing you can do for them too.
