Chocolate Green SuperFood – Product Review

I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be adding a new feature to HealthyFellow.com. Periodically, I will review natural products that may be useful in furthering your own health goals. My intent is to offer an unbiased, third-party assessment of the substance and functionality of a wide array of supplements and natural care items currently available at a health food store near you. Please note that neither myself nor anyone else affiliated with this website has a financial or any other relationship with the manufacturers of the products being reviewed. I buy these items myself and critique them solely on the basis of their merit.

Cocoa, Coconut Oil, Coffee and Whey Protein

The best type of health information is easy to apply in a real world setting. Being informed is the foundation to wellness, but having the tools to enact what is learned is equally important. To that end, I’d like to offer a brief summary of products that help me to apply the principles that I often write about here. My selections are based on practicality, price and quality. I hope that sharing a glimpse into my personal daily routine will help you to find your own tools to make a healthy lifestyle easier to manage.

Coromega – Product Review

The health benefits associated with eating fish and taking fish oil supplements continue to build. In fact, the evidence supporting the use of omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish) has even spilled over into the pharmaceutical sector. GlaxoSmithKline, a major player in the prescriptive medication arena, now produces a fish oil product called Lovaza which can only be acquired by way of a physician’s prescription pad. But is it necessary to use a prescribed drug to get a high quality source of these health promoting lipids? I don’t think so.

Pumpkin Seeds

One of the greatest challenges to maintaining a healthy lifestyle is finding practical ways to properly nourish ourselves while “on the go”. An occasional indulgence in an unhealthy meal or snack isn’t the end of the world. But too often, that lapse is enough to throw off overall momentum for longer periods of time. This is a real concern for those who are trying to manage chronic health conditions or who have embarked on weight loss programs. Today I’ll review one of my favorite snacks, which not only helps support good health, but allows me to stay on plan even during the busiest of times.

Natural Hair and Skin Care

In an attempt to personalize HealthyFellow.com, I’m going to invite you all into a part of my world that only my wife and select family and friends ever venture into: our bathroom. Don’t be scared! There’s a perfectly logical reason for this. If you’re anything like me, you probably stare at the seemingly endless wall of natural hair and skin care items at your local health food store with a perplexed look on your face. The good news is that this very expression often attracts the cosmetics attendant on staff to try to rescue you from your daze. The bad news is that I rarely feel like I end up walking out of the store with exactly the type of product I was looking for. But through much trial and error, I’ve found a group of products by a single manufacturer with which I’ve experienced some success. I’m not trying to sell you anything, but rather hope that this information will assist you in finding cleaner products at a fraction of the cost and time.

Chia Seed Research

Salvia hispanica isn’t exactly a household name. But when it’s referred to as “chia seeds”, the recognition factor increases substantially. In prior decades, that coupling of words would bring to mind a novelty item that would grow into a Chia Pet. However these days, Salvia hispanica is more likely to be mentioned at your local health food store. It turns out that the seeds of chia are noteworthy for being more than just a gag gift.

Gluten Free Snacks

Thursday is the day of the week that I venture out to my local health food store. Today’s mission: To find a crunchy snack that’s all-natural, nutritious and delicious. It’s a tall order, but I think I’ve come up with three noteworthy items that fit the bill. There’s a little something for everyone: raw foodists, vegetarians and those of us on low-carb diets. I’m even throwing in a recipe from my own kitchen that is far more versatile and easy to prepare than any other chip or cracker I’ve ever made. Please join me on this brief tour to the land of healthy snacking.
